I love working as a music therapist in hospice care. There are so many people who are in need of care at the end of life, and music therapy provides an opportunity for people to express themselves, reminisce about their past successes, and share meaningful, music-centered experiences at the end of life. I am so grateful to be a part of so many people’s stories and share moments of human connection, whether that connection brings sorrow or joy, grief or celebration, fear or contentment. My love for my job stems from what I believe to be my calling; to know and support people, and travel through worlds of conflicting emotions with them as they experience those emotions. Not because I am stronger or more complete, but because together we are all human.
Premier Hospice and Palliative Care is a vehicle for me to fulfill my calling. The team is supportive, kind, and present when I am in need as a clinician. My leadership team understands the emotional strain of working in hospice, and does their best to support everyone equally. My experience with the interdisciplinary team has been wonderful, with each team member respecting the ideas and observations of others in order to provide the best care for each patient. Premier puts genuine care of their staff and patients first, and I am grateful to be a part of such a genuine team.
